Surrounded by long drops that might require catching a tricky ledge? Put a point in Holy as a knight so you don’t take fall damage, thanks to your Angelic Wings. The random levels can get really crazy with how they are designed - steep climbs can lead to nearly impossible jumps, which can be made all the more manageable with the proper gear or skill. Much like hitting the jungle in Spelunky, get ready for crazy all new threats that have to be learned. I haven’t made it past level 1 yet more than a few times (and I’ve barely played any class but the Knight), though I did make it to the forest, which starts at level 4, once and that’s quite the experience. Each of the game’s three starting classes plus the one extra class I’ve unlocked so far have several different skills to invest in, such as the Wizard’s Spellcasting skill or the Knight’s Sword skill.

So far each levels are actually fairly large, and you earn XP by defeating enemies and if you earn enough XP (automatic if you defeat the level’s boss, which could be one of three, currently) you can spend a talent point after you get to the next level. Gameplay is king, and this just oozes with it. I adore the art style, it’s really nice looking and has some actual art to the “pixelart” - the animations play a big role in combat, timing your sword strokes rewards you with the meaty connection of the blade to the slime or bat, and it’s satisfying to level up your strength and do more damage or find a powerful mace that swings slow but hits hard.
